which dog is the best for protection?

many people wonder which dog is the best for property protection and there is no right or wrong answer. Your answer could depend on your lifestyle weather you have kids, the age of your kids, your age, your ability to train them (how much time you have). Im not going to quote my personal opinion but I will advise you of what guard dog you should purchase dependant on your circumstances.

A bull mastiff is a very big dog and if you look on my previous article about dog bite force the bull mastiff has a bite force of 556 pounds of pressure per square inch making it the 3rd strongest bite on any dog we know about. so you may say well lets get the one with the biggest bite force but you cant because it is a wild dog and 2 ( the Kangal) would be to hard to train as the average size Kangal on its bag leg is around 6 foot therefore hard to control whilst training. anyway usually the volume of a dogs bark is dependant on its size so the chances are your bull mastiff would have a very loud deep bark, which is a good way of alerting you of a break in. although big and strong the bull mastiff is not very agile or massively intelligent therefore on a large property or work place a bull mastiff is not always the best option.

the Doberman is a reasonably sized dog, but as you can see from the picture is quite skinny therefore very fast so it can cover a larger property. also if a Doberman was running at a criminal they are more likely to run away rather than into the property also unless your a professional sprinter it is highly unlikely you can outrun a Doberman therefore making it likely you will get bitten if you invade the property. However the amount of damage a Doberman is not as great as a bull mastiff and equally unless you know a lot about dogs the criminal may not be frightened of a Doberman where as anyone in there right mind would me scared of a Bull mastiff. Although it may surprise you a Doberman Pinscher was actually bred for a personal human protection not a property but they will do a very good job of protecting either a person or a property. so you may be thinking the mastiff and the Doberman are different, partly I agree with that but the Doberman is actually part of the mastiff family.
the Rottweiler perhaps the most famous for being aggressive to the public (along with the pit bull), the Rottweiler is widely used around the world as a property protection dog. inflicting 328 pounds of pressure per square inch. the way I see a Rottweiler is a mixture between a Doberman and the bull mastiff, I think this because he is not as strong as the bull mastiff but compared to most other dogs he is an extremely powerful animal. equally he is not as fast as the Doberman yet compared to the mastiff he is quite a fast asset for protection.
The widely recognised German shepherd is very commonly known for being a big aggressive police dog.
the reason for this is because the German shepherd is I believe the third most intelligent dog after the poodle and the border collie, also the German shepherd is perhaps the most loyal dog therefore easy to train.
there bite force lives up to its intelligent as he can deliver 238 pounds of pressure per square inch. although not as fast as the Doberman the German shepherd is a very very fast dog easily faster than the Rottweiler. also a lot stronger than the Doberman.

so maybe now you've seen all these aggressive dogs and you either don't know which ones right for you or you think none are right for you but wait untill you have heard about the characteristics of these dogs before you judge. I will write circumstances and which dog is best for that circumstance and why.

you have young kids- I would advise you to choose the German shepherd as its loyalty and affection makes him a great asset to your family. you may not believe me if you don't then take a look at the link below.

I am getting older now I can't control a big dog- this is a hard one but id say German shepherd again because they are easy to train and do the job very well.

I want people to know never to come near my property- because of there personality id have to say Rottweiler, by this I do not by any means imply the Rottweiler has a bad personality yet he has a menacing bark and you can see his razor sharp teeth.

local kids run through my garden and jump my fences- kids these days are quite fast therefore I would advise you to consider a Doberman because they are very alert to notice them in the first place and although there fast the Doberman will easily be faster and even if the Doberman does not quite get them in time at least it will be close and they will not do it again just in case the next time the Doberman gets them.

I want a friendly dog that will play with me yet big enough to scare anyone off- now depending on the way you wish to play with your dog I would either advise you to get the bull mastiff or the German shepherd that depends on your lifestyle for example you don't need that much time to train a affectionate German shepherd where as you need to train something as big as a bull mastiff who to be gentle towards and who to be not so gentle towards.

I want two dogs of different breeds to guard my property- now from this list if you combine a Doberman with a Bull mastiff if someone is intruding then the Doberman will run at the intruder and bite him straight away whilst the mastiff will bark and alert you of the situation, then whilst the criminal is struggling with the Doberman's bite the mastiff will charge and attack which with 556 pounds of pressure into a humans flesh is enough to do life long damage. the dangers of two different breeds is they may not get on and they may fight and we all know who's going to win but if you bring them up together from birth then they will be best friends as personally I have a black lab who is 4 and a 16 week sheep dog and they are really good friends and they copy each others behaviour making it easy to train them both at the same time.

now i'm not saying if you want a good guard dog you have to get one of these because there are many more dogs you could get to guard your property/house these are just a few you could consider if not any in this post the list is as followed. pit bull terrier, staffi (staffordshire bull terrier), boxer, other types of mastiff, Dutch shepherd, Belgian shepherd (Malanois) or an american bull dog.

I hope this article helps if you are looking for a guard dog comment if you have any more circumstances you would like to share with me as I am happy to help.

  1. Indeed, guard dogs are a great idea especially if you're looking for more protection or to buy a Personal Protection Dogs.
